DAY 12 - GONE FROM THE SKY
GONE FROM THE SKY
She discovers the moon, a pile of pale gold rubble,
in the alley behind her house, cracked like an eggshell,
smashed to smithereens. The sky is murky black;
cold darkness creeps along the windswept pavement
where tendrils of alabaster light curled earlier.
Clouds of moonshard and stardust tangle like serpents.
A breeze prowls through the trees; leaves rustle
like weeping women hidden in the swirling branches.
She tries to fix what is broken, but she's not enough.
