A STUDY IN REGRET
The old woman dozes, frail and rusty,
head shrouded against the afternoon sun.
Too warm, she wakes with a start,
squinting and confused, choked
with grief from uneasy dreams.
Too warm, she wakes with a start,
squinting and confused, choked
with grief from uneasy dreams.
Regret piles high on every side,
stacked cinder blocks of sadness.
No do-overs, she can't go back.
Remorse and disappointment prevail.
