184. ON GOLDEN LAKE
184.
ON GOLDEN LAKE
Their dad taught them to swim,
her brothers three little fishies.
Always different, she didn't like
getting her face wet.
They had a red rowboat,
heavy and cumbersome,
but the blue canoes glided
swift and smooth.
Paddles dipped in and out
of clearest water, teamwork
navigated them everywhere,
even across the small bay,
Sometimes their dog Sam
would accompany them.
If he didn't hitch a ride,
he'd follow along the shore.
Golden sunlight sparkled
the peaceful lake,
dragonflies darted and
skimmed along beside them.
Perfect memories
of a perfect childhood.
Now she's the only one left
to remember.

Dad taught us to swim,
my brothers took to it
like three little fishies.
I didn't care for
getting my face wet.
We had a red row boat but
it was cumbersome and heavy,
we liked taking
the sky blue canoes better.
Paddles dipping in and out
of clearest water
we navigated everywhere,
even around the bay,
dragonflies darting and
skimming along beside us.

Here it is, Hiram!
I grew up at a lake and we had 2 blue canoes. My dad taught us The Canoe song: "My paddle's keen and bright, flashing like silver; swift as the wild goose flight, dip, dip, and swing." He had a beautiful tenor and he loved to sing! That's a great memory for me! Hmmmm, maybe I'll try writing about this,
